Volunteers

Every year many unnamed loyal volunteers give their time generously, and with great good will, to ensure the smooth running of the Hastings Musical Festival.

Most in evidence are the platform stewards, who introduce the adjudicators and their classes, announce each performance, and generally make sure everyone knows what’s happening.

Adjudicator’s stewards, aided by the timekeepers, are there to assist adjudicators by making sure scores and scripts, comment sheets, mark sheets and certificates are all where they should be. The dancing adjudicator’s steward must also act as scribe.

When the dancing classes take place, in the main auditorium of the theatre, yet more volunteer helpers are needed. Backstage there is a small army of chaperones, (each with a current CRB check, and licensed by the local authority), to assist the young dancers in the many dressing rooms and to escort them to and from the stage, while a backstage steward liaises between performers, stage crew, dance teachers and platform steward.

At the hub of all this activity  is the festival office, and here again the help of volunteers is needed in the issuing of tickets and certificates and the keeping of records.

This is just one aspect, but a vital one, of the year long work of organisation that leads to the three busy, happy weeks of achievement that make up the Hastings Musical Festival.

Thank you to all the Festival Helpers!
