Piano

Note that in set pieces repeats will be optional unless specifically stated in this syllabus, but all DC and DS marks must be observed. Suitable dress must be worn. No jeans or trainers. Photocopies may not be used for performances. They may only be used by adjudicators and will be destroyed at the end of the session.
Please note that there will no practising on the piano before or during sessions.

This competition will be held conditional on a minimum of thirty entries. In the case of insufficient numbers entry fees will be refunded. Each finalist will play his/her chosen concerto in its entirety with

theSussex Concert Orchestra conducted by Kenneth Roberts. 

First Prize: The Hastings Piano Concerto Trophy and £2500

plus at least one Concerto Performance, and a prestigiousCountry House Recital

Runners-up will receive grants at the discretion of the Executive Committee

The Sir Philip Ledger Prize:

£250 for the youngest pianist to play in the Finals


THE PRELIMINARY ROUND

28th February and 1st March 2011

Adjudicators: Julian Jacobson and Frank Wibaut

Performers will play as required by the adjudicators, any movement(s) of the prepared concerto, or any part or parts thereof. Performers will be expected to provide their own accompanists. (The Festival may be able to suggest a suitable pianist on request)

The three finalists will be announced at the end of the last session on 1st March.

Strings

NOTE – Please state which instrument on the Entry Form (violin, viola, violoncello, double bass, guitar or harp).
Candidates in the string classes need not adhere to the bowing and fingering in the copies, but some change of position should be shown in all classes aged 15 and over. Da Capo and short repeats of eight bars or less should be observed. Suitable dress should be worn for all classes please – no jeans and trainers.

Adjudicator’s music copies are to be marked to show that sequencing has taken place. The use of commercially available midi files is not permitted in any class.
