Welcome Home Warwick
Hastings Musical Festival is delighted to welcome back one of their former young musicians to adjudicate the Piano and Woodwind classes, the new Primary Schools Music day, and to be on the Finals Jury of this year’s Piano Concerto Competition. Warwick Potter grew up in Hastings and competed at the Festival from a young age. This culminated in 1992 with his becoming the only locally born winner of the original Concert Standard Concerto class.
Warwick competed at the Festival every year, from the under 8 class in1976 to 1987 when he commenced his studies at the Royal College of Music where he won every prize for Bassoon available to him.
He left the UK in 2002 to follow a highly successful freelance career as bassoonist and conductor. Since arriving in Australia, he has played for the Australian Chamber Orchestra, the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, and the West Australian Symphony Orchestra. He now lives and works in Brisbane where he is currently Music Director of the Brisbane Philharmonic Orchestra. He conducts the Queensland Youth Orchestra Wind Symphony and the University of Queensland Symphony Orchestra. He has recently been awarded the highly prestigious Australian Post Graduate Award for three years commencing from 2011 at the University of Queensland.
Warwick Potter is one of Australia’s rising stars in conducting with reviewers describing him as dynamic, interpretative, efficient and eloquent.
Welcome home Warwick, The Hastings Musical Festival is proud of you!
